  7.     Where there's smoke, there's fire. And these days where
  8. there's fire, there's Ron Howard. The director was on Capitol
  9. Hill last week testifying about the need to increase funding for
  10. fire-fighter training. His concern stems from his filming of a
  11. hot new drama, Backdraft, about two fire-fighting brothers. Many
  12. of the cast were actual fire fighters whose work with the film
  13. infernos made him more appreciative of their everyday risks.
  14. "Fire fighters have this corny but wonderful code based on
  15. self-sacrifice," Howard says. "They're not complainers, even
  16. though there is plenty working against them."
